Castline

Short version: the forecasts work fully offline and keep your spots on your device. Sharing to the community is optional. If you share, we store only your display name and the text you post — tied to a water area, never to coordinates. We run no analytics and no ads, and we never receive your location.

The short rule: water areas, never spots

Castline is built so that your exact fishing spots stay yours. Community posts, replies, crew plans, and shared session logs attach to a preset water area name (for example "Monterey Bay"). The app has no way to attach your location or a spot's coordinates to a post, and our servers are configured to reject text that looks like coordinates.

Accounts (optional)

You can use every forecast feature without any account. An account is created automatically on your device only the first time you choose to post, reply, vote, or join a crew. There is no email and no password: the app generates a random token that stays on your device and acts as your key. Only your display name is public. You can change it any time, and you can delete your account and posts from Castline's Settings screen or by emailing us.

What we collect

Forecast features — nothing. Scores, saved spots, preferences, and your private logbook live in your device's local storage and never leave it.
If you share — the display name you picked, the text and condition tags of your posts/replies/crew activity, the preset water area it belongs to, and timestamps. We do not collect your location, your coordinates, your email, or your advertising ID.
No analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs — we operate no analytics and serve no ads.

Location

If you tap Use my location, Castline reads your coordinates once to find the nearest preset fishing spot. That calculation happens entirely on your device. Your coordinates are never transmitted to us or to any third party, and they are not stored after the nearest spot is chosen. You can instead pick a spot from the list without granting location permission at all.

Weather and tide data

To build the fishing score, Castline fetches forecasts directly from your device:

Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — barometric pressure, wind, air temperature, sunrise/sunset, sea surface temperature
NOAA CO-OPS (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) — tide predictions for US coastal stations

These requests contain only the spot's coordinates and are made by your device straight to those providers, under their own privacy policies.

Community content and moderation

Posts you share are visible to other anglers, tied to the water area you picked. Every post has a report control; reports are counted and clearly-hidden content stops being shown. Do not put personal information in posts — and remember exact spots are never asked for in the first place. Crew plans are visible only to members of that crew.

Deleting your data

Use Settings → Delete account in the app to delete your account, posts, and crew membership, or email allseeyan@gmail.com from the device you used and we will remove them. Your private logbook was never uploaded, so deleting the app removes it.

Permissions

Internet — to fetch forecasts, and to sync community content if you share.
Location (coarse / fine) — only when you ask for the nearest spot. Optional.
Notifications — reserved for future bite-window reminders. Optional.

Children

Castline is intended for adults (18+) and contains no content directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
